After riding a 1290 Super Duke R ‘around the block’ more than a few times that’s what I was expecting from the Super Adventure S. I am really interested in the S model and can't wait to test ride one in a month's time. The reviews to date are positive.
It's a first world problem: can't go wrong with either. Having said that, a 1290 engine and electronic suspension slotted into the 1190 would be a spectacular bike-- all the 1290 benefits (except the fuel range) without the bulk and (to my eye) less attractive styling. And, while I'm dreaming, to address the latter, dress it in the 9x0 bodywork
So, I am considering a new 1290 Super Adventure S because it sounds like it fits most of my needs or a BMW K1600 GLT. I know the 1290 SAS is only 485 pounds wet and the K1600 is 760 pounds wet, but the K1600 is also more comfortable, but it costs nearly $31K new, or $20K for a 2017 model, and the maintenance on any BMW is expensive.
